As we've said before, the 2015 Seattle Outboard Association season was a great one for Cougar Racing Team. We were so excited with the fact that we had so much fun, learned so much, made so many new friends, and competed well throughout the year that we couldn't have really expected much more. But at the SOA Commodore's Ball on Saturday, Jan. 9, we learned there was indeed more. Co-Owner/Driver Nelson Holmberg was presented with the 2015 H.J. "Pop" Tolford Memorial Trophy for the club's Outstanding Novice Driver. It's a big award that recognizes one's support of their class, contribution to the club and marked improvement and maturity as a boat racer. Previous winners include the likes of Kyle Bahl, Kyle Lewis, Ryan Johnson, Jayson Schrock, Jeff Kelly, Aaron Salmon, Jamie & Jim Nilsen, and others who have gone on to enjoy great success in outboard racing. "Wow. This is very cool," Holmberg said. "Thank you to my whole team - Susanne, Ron, Mick, Phil, and to all who helped us so much along the way. Guys like J. Michael Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Scott & Jayson Moen, Will Fritts, Kyle Bahl, Patrick Gleason and so many others were a huge help this past season. I'm grateful to SOA for this award and for making our team feel a part of the family right away. We truly can't wait for the 2016 season." In 2015, Cougar Racing Team twice finished first in Novice C, and once won a C-Stock Hydro race. The team also had a handful of second place finishes.

Wow! What a day of racing! Cougar Racing Team today won Novice C, AND...wait for it...also picked up our first ever win in the highly competitive and very popular C Stock Hydro class!
Big thanks to my team: crew chief Ron Hartley (who prepared an awesome boat), Phil Dennis (who crewed on a hydroplane for the first time ever today), and Susanne Cox (who kept me sane, and was my biggest cheerleader). |
